The Children’s Trust of South Carolina is proud to introduce the Pinwheel as the new nationwide public
awareness symbol for child abuse and neglect prevention. To further our message from the problem of abuse to
the solution of effective prevention, we are adding another symbol, the pinwheel.
The pinwheel represents efforts to change the way our nation thinks about prevention, focusing on activities that
help increase awareness and prevention before abuse and neglect ever happens in the first place. The pinwheel is a
happy and uplifting symbol of childhood and can be used in a number of ways to draw attention to the prevention of
child abuse and neglect.
The pinwheel campaign is a symbol which can rally people around the idea of ensuring South Carolina's children
are raised in healthy, stable and nurturing environments. To learn more about the Pinwheels for Prevention National
Campaign, click here.
We invite you to plant a pinwheel garden in your community. Plant one in your front yard honoring your children;
at your church; or in front of a business or community building. The Children’s Trust asks that you do not
display and equate the pinwheels with deaths from child abuse or reported cases of child abuse.
Pinwheels may be purchased for $1 each. If you or your organization is interested in joining the Pinwheels for
Prevention campaign please contact Greta Thomas at 803.744.4042 or gthomas@scchildren.org,
