About Us
The Children’s Trust was created in 1984 by the South Carolina General Assembly for the purpose of preventing child abuse and neglect. We are not a state entity, but a separate, non-profit charitable organization. In 2008, legislation adopted by the General Assembly approved the merger of the following non- profit organizations, Prevent Child Abuse South Carolina and Voices for South Carolina’s Children as programs of the Children’s Trust of South Carolina.
Mission
The mission of the Children’s Trust is to prevent child abuse and neglect by promoting healthy, nurturing relationships between children and adults.
Vision
Our vision is that every child will grow up in a safe, loving and stable family. The Children’s Trust of South Carolina will lead the state in building public will and momentum to realize this vision.
The future of South Carolina depends on the children of today
Children who are abused and neglected are at a higher rate for failing school, having behavioral problems, becoming juvenile offenders, and are more likely to continue the cycle of abuse with their own children. Child abuse and neglect can not be ignored. The Children's Trust seeks to address this problem through prevention by providing grants to establish or administer programs shown to prevent child abuse and neglect.
