Advocacy
Communication with policy makers on the state and federal level is essential to raising awareness of the issues facing South Carolina's children and families. This may take the form of cases for support for key legislation or asking questions of our elected officials and candidates for office. Click on the links below for current examples of this type of outreach — and keep checking back for more.
Support Letter for the 2010 CAPTA Reauthorization
Approval of the federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA) Reauthorization Act of 2010 (S. 3817) would have an immediate impact on South Carolina, allowing The Children's Trust to provide additional grants to fund community-based child abuse prevention (CBCAP) programs. More information on grantees currently benefiting from these federal funds, as well as over the past five years, can be found here.
2010 South Carolina Gubernatorial Candidate Questionnaire
When due to scheduling conflicts, the 2010 South Carolina gubernatorial candidates could not commit to a Vote SC Families forum to discuss the pressing issues facing the state's children and families, The Children's Trust still pressed for answers. The above questionnaire was sent on behalf of a statewide coalition to all three gubernatorial candidates, also encouraging public opinion and insight to be shared with the candidates.
