Voices for South Carolina’s Children awards Members of the Media with the Children’s Voice Award Columbia, SC … On Thursday, May 5, 2005 Voices for South Carolina’s Children held the first annual Children’s Voice Awards ceremony atop the Meridian Building in downtown Columbia. The Children’s Voice Awards were created to recognize journalists, newspapers, radio and television stations and other media throughout the state whose outstanding contributions have educated and enlightened South Carolinians about issues surrounding children and in some cases, have resulted in improvement in state or local policy. Nominations came from every region of the state, submitted by individuals on the community level. Each of the nominees were worthy, dedicated candidates who raised their voices for children in their communities (click here for a full list of nominees). The winners of the 2004 Children’s Voice Awards are: large market print, Nina Brook, associate editor, editorial department, The State Newspaper; small market print, Gary Hyndman, staff writer, The Greenville Journal; and broadcast, Sharon Smith, reporter, WLTX-TV 19 Columbia, SC. Voices for South Carolina’s Children is an independent, nonprofit child advocacy organization that works to improve the lives of children (0-18 years old) in the Palmetto State by providing resources and information on children’s issues to families, child advocates, lawmakers and concerned citizens. Voices is committed to preventative programs and early intervention, which improves the quality of life for children while optimizing tax dollars.
