Home Visiting
The Children's Trust is the South Carolina lead agency for the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Visiting Program. The Children's Trust will lead the state's efforts in coordinating the delivery of voluntary home visiting services to improve the health, development, early learning, child abuse and neglect prevention and family support services to children and families through home visiting programs.
The Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program will provide $1.5 billion nationally over the next five years for evidence-based home visitation strategies. South Carolina is expected to receive a historic investment of $1.4 million during the initial planning and implementation year. this initiative is designed:
- Strengthen and improve programs and activities carried out under Title V;
- Improve coordination of services for at-risk families;
- Identify and provide comprehensive services to improve outcomes for at-risk families
Over the next five years, The Children's Trust will use the grant to lead the state's effort in the following benchmarks:
- Improved maternal and newborn health;
- Prevention of child injuries, child abuse, neglect or maltreatment, and reduction of emergency department visits;
- Improvements in school readiness and achievement;
- Reduction in crime and/or domestic violence
- Improvements in family economic self-sufficiency; and
- Improvements in the coordination and referrals for other community resources and supports
The Maternal and Infant Early Childhood Home Visiting Program is administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration's (HRSA) Maternal and Child Health Bureau in collaboration with the Administration for Children and Families (ACF).
