Prevent Child Abuse SC Programs

Healthy Families
Healthy Families is designed to send help directly to homes of
expectant or new parents, with the idea that those who practice
positive parenting from the start are better able to see to their
children's physical and emotion well-being. Health Families also makes
sure children have medical providers and helps parents find resources
close to home if they need help with anything from finding a job to
finding quality day care. Health Families offers on-going assistance,
visiting families in their homes at least weekly at the start. The
visits can continue for three to five years if necessary. For more

Parent Aid
Parent Aides are professionally trained home visitors who work
one-on-one with families, teaching parents to be more loving and
attentive to their children's needs. Objectives include curbing the
harmful effects of family crises and showing families healthy ways to
resolve conflicts. The aides educate parents about the various
ages/stages of child growth and help them develop age-appropriate
discipline techniques. The program links clients to community
resources. The goal is to reduce the need for out-of-home placement of
children. In-home visitors also provide support and crisis intervention
when necessary.
Parents Anonymous
Parents Anonymous groups are valuable for parents who want to
improve relationships with their children. Parents learn better
parenting and coping skills from other parents, in part by discovering
strengths within themselves. They, in turn, can share their techniques
and successes with other parents. The groups meet weekly, are
professionally facilitated and offer free child care.
